Sharron Davies MBE: Olympic
Swimming Champion
Sharron Davies was only 13 years old when she was chosen to represent Great Britain at the 1976 Olympic Games hosted in Montreal. In 1980 she went on to take the silver medal at the Olympic games in Moscow.
Sharron has twice been voted BBC Sports Personality of the year and has been awarded an MBE from the Queen for her services to sport.
No longer competing, Sharron has forged an extremely successful broadcast career, including becoming a key member of BBC television's commentating and presenting team, and through this has been able to cover many major events including the Seoul, Atlanta, Sydney, and most recent, Athens Olympics.
Sharron began her association with McDonald's in 2003 when she was chosen to head up the McDonald's Mums Panel, a forum of 10 mothers including Sharron who meet up regularly to discuss all issues relating to McDonalds such as menu items and restaurants, as well as general lifestyle issues.
Sharron says of the McDonald's Olympic hopefuls team: 'I have worked with McDonald's for a long time and it is great to see them get behind these young athletes at the start of what I am sure will be long and successful careers. My role is to use my experience and knowledge to help parents encourage their kids to lead healthy active lifestyles. As a mum myself I know it can sometimes be a challenge, but small things like walking to school and taking up an after school activity like football or swimming can make a huge difference.'
