Your questions answered
You're correct. Despite its name, there is never any ham in a hamburger. The name hamburger is thought to have been derived from the 'Hamburg Steak' popular in the late 1800s. This was a beef product made from seasoned ground or minced beef.
Of course! If you would like some extra onions or gherkins in your hamburger just ask the staff at the counter when ordering, and they will be happy to oblige.
No. McDonald's burgers are made from 100 percent beef - no binders, fillers or additives. Once the patties are made, they are immediately frozen and dispatched to the restaurants. The beef patties are then cooked, without added fat or oil, between hot plates that cook the patties evenly and quickly from both sides. Finally, a little salt and pepper is added for seasoning.
Gherkins are basically pickled cucumbers and they are a vegetable.
Like burgers and mince from supermarkets or your local butcher, there might be beef from more than one animal in McDonald's hamburgers. But then again - there is milk from more than one cow in a carton of milk and juice from more than one orange in a carton of orange juice! What matters most is that we use only 100% prime beef, from the forequarter of the cow, sourced from over 16,000 British and Irish farms, all producing to the same industry leading standards.
