Less packaging,
renewable packaging
McDonald's uses packaging to ensure our food is fresh, hot, convenient and safe.
We also know it is our most visible means to demonstrate our commitment to the environment which is why we are working to identify ways to reduce the impact of our packaging.
Your questions answered

Why don't McDonald's use washable cutlery?- The vast majority of our food is enjoyed without the use of cutlery. And when menu items do require cutlery - we provide plastic cutlery. This is plastic because the full environmental impact of using dishwashers (increased energy consumption, more chemicals etc...) is not felt to totally counterbalance the choice to use disposable cutlery.

How much of your packaging is made from recycled materials?- We aim to make sure that as much of our packaging as possible is made from renewable resources. All our bags, tray liners and cup carriers are made from 100 percent recycled paper. Packaging for hot foods such as Hamburgers, French Fries, Chicken McNuggets® and Apple Pies, is made from 72 percent recycled paper.

What are your coffee cups made of - are they paper or plastic or something else?- The cups that are used for McDonald's beverages are made from paper and have a coating to meet quality and food safety standards.

Going renewable
