McDonald’s UK, has named local boy, William Fedden, as their winner of their 2016 Olympic Kids competition. William, from Oldham in Manchester, won an exclusive competition to not only attend the Olympic Games this summer, but to also participate in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games which takes place on Friday 5th August.

The competition asked parents to capture their child’s passion for the Olympic Games by recreating a famous Olympian’s pose. William, aged 10, was picked at random for his impression of World Record holder Usain Bolt’s famous ‘lightning’ pose, and is one of one hundred kids from 18 countries to have won a trip to Rio.

William, a pupil at Thornham St James Primary School, will be travelling to Rio with his mum for an action-packed all inclusive five night stay and he cannot wait. He said: ‘I’m really happy I won! I can’t believe I’m going to Rio! I’m excited to see the Olympic Village and watch the Olympic flame being lit.’

William’s trip includes five nights’ accommodation at a 4* hotel in Rio de Janeiro, tickets to the swimming, judo and tennis events, plus other activities McDonald’s has lined up.

This unforgettable holiday will also see William join his favourite athletes by playing a part in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, watched by billions of television viewers around the world.

William’s mum, Joanne Pilkington, said: ‘It’s such an amazing prize, we’re still in shock! Going to Rio is a once in a lifetime opportunity but for William to also play a part in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games is just incredible.’
