I am a franchisee & this is my McDonald’s

I joined the police force when I was 21 and stayed there for around nine years. But I had caught the bug for business. My first venture was in retail, and was a real community hub. That’s part of the reason I chose McDonald’s: community is important to them too. I also visited regularly with the children, so it was a brand I trusted. It was within my financial reach and, when I did my research, it ticked all the boxes.

Support

McDonald’s is a global brand with an amazing support network. It’s got tried-and-tested systems that have delivered great success throughout the years. From the start of the application and interview process, through training and beyond, I’ve benefitted from that support. I’ve definitely not been going it alone. It’s one of the things about the system that really appealed to me. I was taking a big step away from what I knew, so it was important that the structure was in place and the support was available to me.

A community business

McDonald's is very community oriented and I’m encouraged to get involved. It’s important for me, as a local business owner, to be visible within the community. But I’m also a mother and I’m part of the community – I want to get involved. The fact that I can with the support of such a large brand is a lovely feeling.
