What should I expect during the application process?

Trainee Business Managers - As we want to be sure that we're absolutely right for each other, you'll go through a four-step selection process. The first stage is the initial screening process; this is to ensure that you meet our basic criteria. If you meet these, you will be asked to complete the next stage, an online personality questionnaire. This will ensure that you have the right attributes for McDonald's and that the McDonald's environment is suited to your preferred style of working.

Your next step will be the restaurant based 'On Job Evaluation' or OJE. Here you'll do the job for real for a day and discover what it's really like working in a McDonald's restaurant.

The final step of the selection process is an interview with an Operations Manager, who will review everything you've seen and done so far. By this time you'll have met our people, seen how we do business and even served a few customers!

Crew Member - To make sure we're right for each other, we've designed a two-step application process. The first phase starts right here in the form of an online questionnaire during the application, which will take on average 30 minutes to complete. If successful, you'll be invited to a restaurant for an On Job Evaluation (OJE) and Interview with one of our Business Managers.

What training is given to Trainee Business Managers and how long does it last for?

Our TBMs (Trainee Business Managers) are put through the same development programme as all of our crew and management team. As a TBM you will be put through an intensive version of our Crew Development Plan and you will then go through the first level of our Management Development Programme, which includes various courses and a lot of 'on job' learning. After you have completed this, your training as a TBM will be complete, however you will already be working your way through our management training, which will continue throughout your career with McDonald's. The length of time spent on the TBM training varies by candidate, as it is down to the individual to push themselves forward. However, we expect most TBM candidates to complete this within 18 to 20 weeks.

Can I apply for more than one vacancy?

Yes you can. You can apply for as many vacancies as you wish. However, we do recommend that you think carefully about what you want to do and where you wish to work before applying.

Why is my local restaurant not showing any vacancies?

All of our restaurants advertise their positions on our website so if there aren't any listed this means they are not currently hiring. You can set up a search agent that will notify you when a position becomes available in your local area. You can also apply to our general talent pool.

What does it mean when it states franchised restaurant?

A franchised restaurant is a restaurant operated by a local business person trading under the McDonald's name. Currently over half of our restaurants in the UK are franchised but from a customer point of view there's no difference. For employees there will be minor differences between a company and a franchised restaurant. These will be listed in the individual vacancy.

What documents should I provide as proof of eligibility to work in the UK?

What if I don't have my own computer or email account?

There are a number of places in your local community that have free public access to computers e.g. public library or Jobcentre Plus as well as internet cafes (for a small cost). They will also be able to advise you on setting up a personal email account.

Can I complete a paper application instead of the online application?

All of our applications are now done online as we ask all candidates to complete a short, online test. There is no other way of applying, in order to ensure consistency.

What happens if I submit an application without choosing a specific role?

If you haven't selected a role your application will go to our talent pool. Your application will not go directly to any of our restaurants; however they all have the opportunity to search for candidates. This will mean that it will usually take a lot longer for any of our restaurants to get in touch with you so it is recommended that you apply for the specific roles you are interested in.
