Local girl Millie wins trip of a lifetime to be in the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Millie Curtis will be walking out amongst the stars as she gears up to head to Rio

McDonald’s UK has named local girl, Millie Curtis, as their winner of their 2016 Olympics Kids competition. Millie Curtis, from Carmarthen in Wales, won an exclusive competition to not only attend the Olympic Games this summer, but to also participate in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games which takes place on Friday 5th August.

The competition asked parents to capture their child’s passion for the Olympic Games by recreating a famous Olympian’s pose. Millie, aged 8, was picked at random for her impression of British Olympian Jessica Ennis-Hill’s winning photo finish from the 2012 London Olympic Games, and is one of one hundred kids from 18 countries to have won a trip to Rio.

Millie, a pupil at Model Church in Wales School, will be travelling to Rio with her mum for an action-packed all-inclusive five night stay and she cannot wait. She said: ‘I can’t believe I won! I’m so excited to go to Rio and watch the athletes. I’m looking forward to meeting all the other winners from around the world as I’d like some new pen friends!’

Millie’s trip includes five nights’ accommodation at a 4* hotel in Rio de Janeiro, tickets to the swimming, judo and tennis events, plus other activities McDonald’s has lined up.

This unforgettable holiday will also see Millie join her favourite athletes by playing a part in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, watched by billions of television viewers around the world.

Millie’s mum, Rhian Curtis, said: ‘I am so delighted that Millie’s won such an amazing prize! She is over the moon. She was so excited that as soon as she heard the news she insisted we travel 25 miles to Swansea to interrupt her Grandfather’s bowls game just to tell him! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and for her to participate in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games is just incredible.’

Watch Millie feature in the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in August.
